To explore the data analysis functionality on ChatGPT, a user is required to upload one or more data files, after which the AI tool will analyze the data by writing and running Python code on the user’s behalf.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) leader OpenAI has teased another improved capability to its users with the addition of new enhancements that cater to data analysis. According to OpenAI’s announcement on X, interactive tables and charts are coming to its new flagship Large Language Model (LLM) GPT-4o in a few weeks.
OpenAI Users Can Sync ChatGPT With Their Google Apps
Once implemented, users can add files directly from their Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive into ChatGPT. This eliminates the need for a user to first download files to their desktop before uploading on ChatGPT. Moreso, it helps the AI tool to better understand a user’s Google Sheets, Docs, Slides, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint files more quickly.
However, this service will only be available to those users that subscribes to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise.
Notably, the tables and charts will be available in a new expandable view so users can follow along as it updates the analysis. OpenAI users can customize and download these charts for their presentation or add to another document. One could even ask follow-up questions during the analysis to get better insights. There is also an option to choose from ChatGPT’s suggested prompts to go deeper into the analysis.
These enhancements find support in ChatGPT’s ability to comprehend datasets and perform tasks in different languages.

Some of the tasks that it can handle are merging and cleaning large datasets, creating charts, and uncovering insights amongst others.
OpenAI to Promote Independence with Data Analysis Feature
This offering is believed to bring ease and convenience to beginners who are not knowledgeable about data analysis.
Those who fall in this category can perform in-depth analyses without employing the service of an expert. Also, it saves experts time on routine data-cleaning tasks. Several entities have been exploring this feature on ChatGPT and so far, they seem convinced that it does the work.
“ChatGPT is part of my toolkit for analyzing customer data, which has become too large and complex for Excel. It helps me sift through massive datasets, allowing me to conduct more data exploration on my own and reduce the time it takes to reach valuable insights,” said David Vaughn, VP of The Carlyle Group.
Apart from this data analysis feature coming to OpenAI’s latest upgrade GPT-4o, the model can perform other functions including storytelling, providing strong feedback, and helping solve a maths problem among other applications.
In the future, OpenAI’s plan is to include the updated “Voice Mode” on GPT-4o and will also release an alpha in the upcoming weeks.
